Entering the Poetry by Heart Festival (if not, why not!) and need some added support and motivation in lifting the words from the page and making the process fun? If the answer is yes, then Martine is your answer. With a lifetime of experience performing poetry in both live and recorded context and in teaching, examining and adjudicating in Speech and Drama, Martine can enthuse your students to really bring the words to life. Recent Residencies and Masterclasses: Poetry By Heart Competition – In its first year, this annual national Competition launched a series of Teacher Day Masterclasses to help inspire and prepare teachers to coach their competition entrants. Martine, in association with NAWE, led the first Teacher Day Masterclass in Darlington to deliver Verse speaking and Projection techniques for a range of challenging poems on the set list to help teachers prepare pupils for the ultimate challenge – performing in the final at the National Portrait Gallery, London. In 2008 / 2009 Martine worked as Voice Artist in Residence /Audio Creative for Anim8ed Stories, a National Media Museum 2 phase residency in schools across all Key Stages. The BAF 2009 Best Young Animators Award went to Immersion Emergence - the ancient tragedy of Soni and Mahiwal, 1 of the 12 stories created as part of the Project, using lines from Romeo and Juliet and The Rubyiat of Omar Khyam as soundscape and narration for the KS4 animation made by Titus Salt Secondary School, Bradford. For many of the participants, this was the first time they had tackled Shakespeare in performance and their intensive day’s training with Martine really helped them overcome any initial fear of speaking in unison, speaking on mic and unlocking the meaning and rhythm of speaking in verse.
